New Demo Reel
Happy New Year & happy ❤ day!
This is Big Heart Film, my new adventure!
Why Big Heart? I came up with the name before our second son was born and I’m finally making it a reality! I love making videos and it’s that simple. It feels like this was meant to be.
What keeps our world spinning (at 1,000mph!!) besides a bunch of really cool science, is what comes from the heart. I think happiness is key and if I can use video to help inspire and make people smile, that makes me happy. At this moment, I will be taking on just a few projects but am excited for documenting many adventures to come.
Once while driving in a parking lot another car cut me off and it upset me. My son who was about 3 years old at the time asked what happened. I said "Some people are just mean." Then he said "Yea... but some people are nice."
This reminded me that a lot of times kids are smarter than adults. I catch myself trying to teach my kids about good values and being empathetic but am reminded often to just listen. We have a lot we can learn from children. I'd like to continue to help give kids a voice through video.
There are a ton of meaningful stories waiting to be told. So listen to your heart (and also your brain!)
Thank you to my friends & family for your support!
Above is a new 60 second demo. A demo reel is not just a collection of diverse work squeezed into a short amount of time. It’s a video that communicates the types of things I film and what I want to say.
Techstars Studio
Techstars is the worldwide network that helps entrepreneurs succeed… and I love them! I started making videos for Techstars in 2009, you can see more videos here. Techstars is made up of amazing people making a positive impact on the world of entrepreneurship. Below is a video I edited, about half of the footage I shot on Techstars Studio.
Sunflower Farm
Sunflower Farm is located in Longmont, Colorado with lots of different animals to say hi to and fun activities for kids of all ages. Our kids love it there and we do too! It’s really a happy place where kids can explore and have their own little adventures. Below is a video I made for Sunflower Farm, filmed over the course of a few months. If you’re interested in visiting the farm, check out their website to get tickets.
A huge thank you to Hannah Leslie and all of the cute kiddos (and animals) who made cameos!
It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood.
“There are three ways to ultimate success:
The first way is to be kind.
The second way is to be kind.
The third way is to be kind.”
- Fred Rogers
Hi guys! I'm starting this new company, Big Heart Film, and although the video content will be diverse I'd like to spend time giving children a voice too. With this in mind, a great way to kick off the blog is encouraging you to watch this documentary "Won't You Be My Neighbor?"
My friend told me about this film so we went to the theatre, watched it, and fell in love with it! What an uplifting story about a man who's purpose in life was to help children. He was the creator and star of the TV show, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. Mister Rogers promoted empathy, kindness, and equality. He was their advocate and took kids' feelings, thoughts, and questions seriously. It's uplifting and a healthy reminder that there are people out there with giant hearts, like him. Thank you to the team of filmmakers who made this documentary and thank you to Fred Rogers who was the hero to many children during his life!
There are so many inspiring quotes from Fred Rogers, here are just a few:
“Anyone who does anything to help a child in his life is a hero to me. ”
Knowing that we can be loved exactly as we are gives us all the best opportunity for growing into the healthiest of people.
“When I say it's you I like, I'm talking about that part of you that knows that life is far more than anything you can ever see or hear or touch. That deep part of you that allows you to stand for those things without which humankind cannot survive. Love that conquers hate, peace that rises triumphant over war, and justice that proves more powerful than greed.”
“Knowing that we can be loved exactly as we are gives us all the best opportunity for growing into the healthiest of people.”
“When we love a person, we accept him or her exactly as is: the lovely with the unlovely, the strong with the fearful, the true mixed in with the façade, and of course, the only way we can do it is by accepting ourselves that way.”
